About Me
Background
Chirag Vasavda, MD, PhD
I am a physician-scientist originally from the Bay Area in California. After graduating from Duke University with a BS in Chemical Biology, I matriculated at Johns Hopkins to pursue my MD and PhD in Neuroscience under Dr. Solomon Snyder.
My graduate thesis focused on leveraging chemical biology and pharmacology to study how small molecules and endogenous metabolites influence itch and pain.
At Hopkins, I identified novel ligand-receptor interactions that mediate recalcitrant itch in patients with chronic kidney and liver disease, and I discovered small-molecule therapeutics for trigeminal nerve facial pain.
I recently completed my internship in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital and am now a dermatology resident at Harvard.
I am passionate about advancing science and medicine for the benefit of humanity, serving across scientific, medical, and pharmaceutical institutions to help ensure that the fruits of progress are shared equitably.
"My hope is that by dissecting the molecular mechanisms that underpin somatosensation, we will inch closer towards the tools we need to relieve the itch, pain, and discomfort that so often accompany disease."
Clinical
Specialized care for patients with complex medical dermatology concerns spanning dermatology-rheumatology, neuroimmunology, and autoimmunity.
Scientific
A translational research program at the intersection of basic neuroimmunology and drug discovery, with the goal of developing better treatments for patients suffering from itch and pain.
